I’m an American
Never said I’m perfect never said I’m worth it
But I do know what marriage is
When two fall in love and ask for the strength from the man up above
And who are we to judge
If he chooses he or she marries she or he is with she
There shouldn’t be difference
Then why is it that every time it happens we send them down a guilt trip
And tell them that they’re wrong when they think they’re right
I’m standing for freedom and equality, but refusing to fight
I’m here for the piece of the puzzle where everyone gets stumbled
When walking down this path
That I’m choosing to go hoping that my math is correct
Science is wrong and faith is the truth
Then why do I feel so torn that I’m wrecked
Hoping I was dead wishing they still all had a head
Start to the bottom and not six feet under
The way that they went
Hearing all the cries from a thousand miles away
Echo through the skies like some thunder making me wonder
Could it have been prevented would they still be living?
Looking at conspiracies while reading on what theory is
By attempting an organized system of accepted knowledge
That applies in a variety of circumstances to explain a specific set of phenomena
Wishing I had the power to erase the trauma of
That day when everyone was gay until early morning
Tragedy struck without giving us any type of warning
Tears filled the streets hearts stopped to beat
When two twins collapsed into ashes sending thousands into caskets
Leaving families in agony that I’ve never known
But if I could I’d trade all those lives for my own
Just me is better than a thousand times three
To all of those families they’re in a better place if you believe
To all of those heroes without you we’d still be in grieve
And I’m hoping all my research happens to deceive
Me when I find that I could slowly lose my liberty
Searching for serenity in the midst of prosperity
Call it success or say that I’m blessed
Until I’m laid to eternal rest reunited with my peers
Where I don’t know anywhere but here
So we no longer live in fears and a tear becomes a smile
And while we live happily ever after we unfold our next chapter
Living for the freedom hoping nobody ever has to bleed some
Red, white, and blue like ten years ago the day that I wish was never true
To some I’m a rebel with a mind
But to me I’m an American fighting for what’s right before the time is mine
